LEGO Robotics Results:

On Saturday, 4/8/17, we had three team compete in the Southern MD Robotics Championship at the College of Southern Maryland’s campus in LaPlata. There were 39 elementary school teams in this annual competition. Each team programmed its robot through 3 rounds of competition tasks and also sent their recycling videos / presentations in advance to the judges.

Our 4th grade team, the Beach Bots, included: Ariana Alvarez, Dominick Clark, Hayden Davis, Jack Gladfelter, Aleah Johnson, Alec Johnson, Charlile Puttlitz, and Raleigh Sterling. Our 4th graders were coached by Mrs. Sterling, Mrs. Gladfelter, and Mr. Davis. They will present their project on recycling and composting to Mayor Mahoney and the Town Council at their meeting on Thursday, 5/18.

We had two 5th grade teams.  The Beach Brainiacs earned the Overall Project Award, and this team included: Jackson Goehle, Taylor McPheeters, Jackson Morrissey, Troy Scheleur, Caden Wood, Quinn Wood, and Brianna Zaczek. They were coached by Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Morrissey.

The Trash Masters 5th grade team included: Ahnaf Anowar, Evelynn Argeles, Ian Hammett, Caroline Hyder, Makayla Marvray, Maddie Matthews, and McKenna Ross. They were coached by Mr. Helm and Mr. Hammett. The Trash Masters guided their robot into to the Elite Eight (quarterfinals) and then into the Final Four (semi-finals) and finished as the 4th place team out of 39 teams. Kudos to our kids and coaches!

Calvert County had three elementary schools in the final four competition: Beach ES – 4th place, Sunderland ES – 3rd place, and Barstow ES was the 1st place champion!
